About Beaivi
Beaivi was founded by Mathis Áilu Eira Meløy, originally from Karasjok in Northern Sápmi and based in Harstad, Norway since 2010.
Mathis Áilu is a qualified Sámi language teacher and has worked in education since 2002. Raised in a reindeer-herding Sámi family and with Northern Sámi as his mother tongue, he has maintained a strong connection to Sámi language, culture, traditions and identity throughout his life.
Alongside his work in education, Mathis Áilu founded Beaivi with a vision of creating modern, high-quality products inspired by Sámi heritage while reflecting contemporary Sámi life. The goal is not to replicate existing traditions, but to create products that combine Sámi identity, design and storytelling with everyday functionality and lasting quality.
What began with a passion for watches has gradually evolved into a wider collection of accessories and lifestyle products, including watches, jewelry, shoelaces, scarf rings, caps and other contemporary designs. Every product is developed with a focus on quality, practicality and a strong visual connection to Sápmi.
For Mathis Áilu, Beaivi is about more than products. It is about contributing to a living Sámi design culture, creating pride in Sámi identity, and making Sámi-inspired design accessible both within and beyond the Sámi community.
As a small independent family business, Beaivi is built on personal involvement, authenticity and direct contact with customers. Visitors to festivals and markets will often meet not only Mathis Áilu himself, but also members of his family, who frequently take part in the journey and help bring the brand to life.
